The aerospace business was initially based on mechanical engineering, and all the aerospace companies were managed by mechanical engineers. In the 70s somebody counted their engineers and discovered that they most of them were electrical engineers. Then in the 90s somebody counted again, and they were software engineers. I suspect now most development is in user experience, if you think about how the benefits of a F35 work. A relative handful of mechanical engineers not design aircraft.
