There's actually been a lot of study of this, and you don't quite have it right. You describe memory as you experience it, but not everyone experiences it the same. Temple Grandin made the same mistake in her book Thinking in Pictures, but she got so much feedback that she corrected the record in The Autistic Brain. I recommend you read The Autistic Brain, as it covers many ways of remembering.

I would characterize the way you describe as left hemisphere memory, as described by psychiatrists like McGilchrist and Cutting
